The Transnational Institute (tni), based in The Netherlands, have carried out research into the financial crisis and the role that large auditing firms played in their failure to properly audit the banks level of risk and the high amount they have made in fees. TNI are critical of the role the 'big four' auditing firms and a small group of financial consultancy firms made in the run up to the crisis, the fees they earned during the crisis and their continuing influence and role in what tni terms 'the bailout business'.
