In North Carolina, two of the more common terms beyond spousal support are post separation support and alimony. North Carolina requires that couples be separated for one year before he/she can file for a divorce which is why post separation support may be very important. It's possible that someone may not be entitled to long term financial support and the court could decide a one or two year time frame is sufficient to help the spouse get back on their feet.
