The air traffic control failure was caused by flight data received by National Air Traffic Services (NATS), an initial investigation has found. Mark Rolfe explained such "complex" technical issues occur "very occasionally" and can take longer to resolve, but NATS' systems are designed to "isolate the problem" and prioritise safety.
