Clients come in to us all the time with some decisions already made like starting Social Security too early. They say “I wish I knew about you………” Sometimes it’s a lower earning spouse with a very low check who started Social Security early not knowing about the 50% spousal benefit. The second check is compromised for life. We’ve done several “DO-OVERS” for clients lately. In the video above, you can see how we dealt with this process and set up a better financial plan for our client. Questions? rewrite this title Do You Know the Difference Between IRA Contribution and Roth Conversion?

Show Notes: Do you know the difference between a CONTRIBUTION to your retirement account and a CONVERSION of your retirement account ? To CONTRIBUTE you must still be working and you face annual limits as to how much you can contribute. To CONVERT to a Roth IRA, you can be retired and your only limits are the size of your pre-tax IRA/401k and the income tax you are willing to pay. Roth IRAs are great for tax free retirement income later and to leave to your children and grandchildren as an inheritance. Questions? Investing in Real Estate through an IRA

Residential Real Estate inside of an IRA? Is it a sound strategy? We run into this all the time in our Financial Planning practice. It can be set up properly like example #3 in the video. It can also bring bad consequences from the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) like examples #1 and #2. If each step is not carried out correctly, the penalty is disqualification of the entire IRA (Individual Retirement Accounts) with tax and penalty due retroactively to the purchase date. Social Security: Benefits for a Widow or Widower

Social Security rules have eliminated "File and Suspend" or "Restricted Application" as a filing strategy for married people in 2015. For widows, the "Restricted Application" strategy still works as long as they have not remarried before 60. In this video, Tom and I discuss how two clients were recently helped and how they have been able to collect their benefits. Questions? Inherited IRAs Under the 10 Year Rule IRS Update

If you are the named beneficiary of an IRA (Individual Retirement Accounts) or you own an IRA yourself and have named beneficiaries, this topic affects you. The SECURE ACT shortened the time period beneficiaries are allowed to delay taking money out and paying income taxes. With an update earlier this year, the IRS added more confusion to distribution rules for beneficiaries. This video goes over all of this. Show Notes: Questions? IRAs: Calculating your RMDs

Waiting until age 72 to start withdrawing money from your IRA/401k seems like smart tax strategy on the surface, but when you view it over a lifetime it creates a tax problem for your heirs. REQUIRED MINIMUM DISTRIBUTIONS (RMDs) as a distribution strategy puts you on the government’s plan for distribution. Consider a distribution strategy starting in your 60s designed to lower your overall IRA tax over your lifetime. Questions?
