Age can be a determining factor in whether or not you qualify for Social Security Disability benefits. If you are under the age of 50, you must be able to prove that your disability has lasted or is expected to last at least one year before you can receive benefits. Those over the age of 50 need only demonstrate that their impairment is severe enough to prevent them from doing any type of substantial gainful activity. Age does not play a role in determining whether or not you qualify for VA benefits. However, veterans who have served during wartime may be able to receive additional compensation based on their age and length of service.
