House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries held his weekly press conference on Tuesday, July 28th to discuss the latest news in Congress and the Democratic agenda. The press conference was held virtually due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, with Jeffries speaking from the Capitol. He began by highlighting the work Congress has done to pass legislation to support the American people during the pandemic, including the HEROES Act, which passed the House in May. He also discussed the need for additional relief to help those suffering financially due to the pandemic. Jeffries went on to discuss the need for police reform in the wake of George Floyd’s death. He spoke about the Justice in Policing Act, which was passed in the House in June, and the need to pass it in the Senate. He also discussed the importance of voting rights and the need to protect them, as well as the need to pass legislation to protect the U.S. Postal Service. Jeffries concluded his remarks by discussing the need for bipartisanship in Congress. He called on both sides of the aisle to work together to pass legislation that would help the American people. The press conference was streamed live on the House Democrats’ website and was attended by members of the press from across the country. Jeffries’ remarks were met with applause from viewers, and he was asked a variety of questions from the press.
