As of 1 April 2021, retired employees and pensioners across India have reason to celebrate. The Centre has announced an increase in the minimum pension scheme under the Employees Pension Scheme (EPS) 1995. This move is set to benefit over 65 lakh retired employees and pensioners across the country. The minimum pension has been increased to Rs 1,000 per month, representing a 50% increase from the previous minimum pension of Rs 650 per month. The enhanced pension amount will be applicable to those pensioners who had opted for commutation of their pension, that is, a lump-sum payment in lieu of monthly pension. This is not the only good news for retired employees and pensioners. The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has also launched a new initiative - the Employees TV - to provide information on all schemes and services available to its members online. Employee TV is a dedicated digital platform that aims to aid the dissemination of information and awareness regarding PF (Provident Fund), Pension and Insurance schemes governed by the EPFO. The platfrom-TV is specifically designed for the benefit of members who are unable to attend physical training sessions or are living in remote areas. The employees' TV is equipped with tutorials, videos and visuals explaining how to avail the benefits of all schemes under the EPFO. This platform will ensure easy access and navigation to multiple scheme-related tools and content, personalised spaces for all types of users like employers, employees and pensioners etc. The EPFO also aims to create awareness through the platform-TV by encouraging members to create their accounts on its official website and mobile application. This would give the members complete access to all the benefits offered by the EPFO online. The announcement of the increase in minimum pension scheme and the launch of the Employees TV are both positive steps by the government towards improving the lives of pensioners and retired employees. These moves will help ensure that the hard work put in by these individuals during their working years is rewarded accordingly. Overall, these developments paint a bright picture for the future of retired employees and pensioners in the country.
