Retiring a millionaire at 35 is an ambitious goal, but it is achievable with the right plan and dedication. A Roth IRA and S&P 500 index funds are two of the best investments to help you reach your goal. A Roth IRA is a retirement account that allows you to save for retirement on a tax-advantaged basis. Contributions to a Roth IRA are made with after-tax dollars, meaning you won’t owe taxes on the money when you withdraw it in retirement. The money in a Roth IRA grows tax-free and can be withdrawn without taxes or penalties after age 59 1/2. S&P 500 index funds are a type of mutual fund that tracks the performance of the S&P 500 index. The S&P 500 is made up of 500 of the largest companies in the United States, and is considered a benchmark for the stock market. Investing in S&P 500 index funds allows you to diversify your portfolio and benefit from the long-term growth of the stock market. To retire a millionaire at 35, you’ll need to save and invest aggressively. Start by contributing the maximum amount to your Roth IRA each year. The maximum contribution for 2021 is $6,000. If you are age 50 or older, you can contribute an additional $1,000 as a “catch-up” contribution. Once you’ve maxed out your Roth IRA, you can invest the rest of your savings in S&P 500 index funds. Aim to save and invest at least 15% of your income each year. Over time, the combination of tax-free growth in your Roth IRA and the long-term growth of the stock market should help you reach your goal.
