Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation in which a person seeks to sow seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or in members of a targeted group, making them question their memory, perception, or sanity. It’s a subtle and insidious form of abuse that can cause immense harm to your mental health. In a romantic relationship, gaslighting can be downright toxic. It’s important to spot the signs early so you can get help and get out before it’s too late. Here are some tips from relationship expert Susan Winter on how to recognize gaslighting in your relationship. 1. Trust your instincts Always trust your gut instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, then it likely isn't. Pay attention to your feelings and don’t let your partner convince you that you’re the one who’s wrong. 2. Look for inconsistencies Gaslighting often involves inconsistencies, such as your partner denying they said something or changing their story. If your partner denies saying something, but you remember them saying it, don’t doubt your memory. Trust yourself. 3. Look for signs of manipulation Gaslighting often involves manipulating your emotions. Your partner might play upon your insecurities or make you doubt yourself. They might tell you that you’re too sensitive or that you’re overreacting. All of these things are manipulative tactics that can cause you to doubt your own mental clarity. 4. Don’t let your partner twist your words If your partner twists your words or takes a comment or statement out of context, this is a red flag. Make sure you are communicating with your partner clearly, and don’t let them distort your words to fit their agenda. 5. Don’t let gaslighting ruin your self-esteem Gaslighting can leave you feeling insecure and questioning your own self-worth. Don’t let your partner’s toxic behavior make you feel like you’re not good enough. Remember, no one deserves to be treated this way. If you suspect that you’re a victim of gaslighting, don’t hesitate to seek help. Talk to a trusted friend or family member, or consider seeking professional help. Remember, you deserve to be treated with respect and dignity, and you don’t have to put up with toxic behavior. https://inflationprotection.org/susan-winters-guide-to-recognizing-gaslighting-in-your-relationship/?feed_id=96307&_unique_id=645c198890526 #Inflation #Retirement #GoldIRA #Wealth #Investing #datingadvice #emotionalabuse #gaslighting #psychologicalabuse #relationshipexpert #SusanWinter #SelfDirectedIRA #datingadvice #emotionalabuse #gaslighting #psychologicalabuse #relationshipexpert #SusanWinter
